I have yet to crack the 5lb club here in MN and as I watch the BASS master clips I see a majority of the pros fishing shallow. I've always thought that the biggins sit out in deep am i wrong?

PB was somewhere around 8Lbs. Top water frog over lily pads in 5 ft deep water.

You don’t see most pros fishing shallow because it’s inherently the best but because how the tournaments line up. They start in the south and head north chasing the prespawn and spawn for a lot of the year. If you look at tournaments like Mille Lacs, Champlain, st. Lawrence and Toledo Bend youll see them do damage deep. That being said my PB came shallow but my average fish is much better fishing deep when the time comes.

I'd have to echo your sentiment. When I fish deep I catch consistently better fish on average, but shallow is where my PB came from and where most of my jiants come from.
I also just prefer fishing shallow, although I do love fishing some underwater points and saddles during the winter.

7 feet of water, a shade over 14# at Otay Lake in Chula Vista, CA
An 8.8 in deep 20 ft of water and a 9.2 in less than 5 ft. of water. The 8.8 in 20 ft. was sitting off a flat that was 3 ft deep. The 9.2 came off a 5 ft. ridge with 15 ft. of water 10 yds away. Most big fish are going to be close to a drop off into deep water except during spawn but they will still be within a short distance to deep water.
