What gear is worth spending a bit more on?

I've been fishing for years and have pretty much every bit of kit going. Most of it was either given to me or bought at a relatively budget price point.

I've just been given a large-ish fishing voucher by my employer and I'm looking for ideas on what to spend it on. There's nothing at all that I 'need' so instead I'd like to get something really nice, that feels like a big upgrade.

Any suggestions?

I cannot speak to the salt water experience, but if you fish freshwater, money spent on a good rod, especially for jigging and rigging is worth every penny.
The rod is more important than the reel.
In my opinion, a quality rod (followed by a quality reel) would be the biggest impact regarding upgrade.

IF YOU HAVE A ROD AND YOU ARE BUYING ANOTHER ONE, THE SAME, IS EASY TO BUY IT FROM INTERNET, BUT IF IS A NEW ONE AND NEVER TRY IT, FOR ME, IS BETTER GOING TO A STORE AND FEEL THE ROD

I’d need to know a little more about “large ish”
You can really sink some cash into fishing gear.
Others have said the rod is what you should focus on. I agree with this . It does most of the work.
However , a great reel really rounds it out.
Let us know your budget and what are thinking about using and fishing for. We can help you narrow it down

Hey, I agree with this statement even in lower case. But, I can’t find a Gloomis NRX casting rod in a store and I have a Bass Pro 15 miles away. Were do you go to touch the good stuff these days?

On another note and it took years to figure this out. A rod used to be a stick used to cast and fight a fish in. Now it is an antenna that transmits all the vibration from the lure, through a tight line, and then to your hands. More cash gets you a better signal. Spend wisely and you may or may not catch more fish, but you will have a different experience. I’m hooked on the better stuff. Just have to keep saving the benjamins.
