Any thoughts on listening to music while fishing? Do you? How do you do it? Do you use ear buds or your boat’s sound system? Does it impact your success? Curious.

My music is the sounds of nature.
Still trying to figure out a way to send out a frequency that would disable all the sound systems on the boats on the lake. But that’s just me.

I prefer quiet and solitude and the sounds of nature also be able to hear anything that would be of importance such as bait fish breaking water, birds feeding on bait at a distance and another boater not paying attention and moving fast and directly on course to run into me.

Another theory I’ve heard that some species of fish in large bodies of water are attracted to the sounds produced by large commercial fishing boats because they feed on the by products discarded by them. So the stomping and the music and splashing attracts the fish. One charter boat captain told me this is the reason he encourages loud music, splashing of baits and chum stomping etc. while fishing for stripers and blues, tuna.

If a party boat is your thing then go for it. But I’m like you. Quite and solitude, but the wife insists I take a fishing buddy. Quite conversation is nice and it’s good to get excited when you hook one but I don’t need no chatty cathy.

My new (used) boat has a stereo system, we haven't even seen if it works, I'm too busy looking at what's going on around us to think about music.

And what’s with the guys on motorcycles that have their music so loud that they couldn’t hear the big rig as it’s running them over. They make wireless ear buds for that.

I like peace and quiet while fishing but I’ve been known to listen to a ball game.
Bluetooth speaker.
I’m mixed on impact of radio on fishing. I’ve done well deep vertical jigging for crappie while listening to the Buckeyes beat the snot out of someone or another.
( I wasn’t fishing during National championship game )

I have been on a good walleye bite on a calm Canadian night where even talking moderately spooked the fish - especially in fairly shallow water.
I do believe in calm conditions, music would have to spook fish.
I also enjoy a good ballgame on the radio while fishing, but don't blast the volume.
I do think banging in the boat, loud noises, and loud music would have to have an impact on most fish species.
I also believe even aggressive footsteps on a trout stream bank spook many fish.
You can certainly fish with loud music, you just might not catch many.

But I have also been a guest in a boat where a guy likes to play music and have done alright too, so there must be some fish out there that like to boogie!
