Agree, Costa Rica would be my first choice by far. Hope you’re a coffee drinker because if you are you’ll be in Heaven.

Texas. Alligator gar fishing with Capt Bubba Bedre. On my bucket list.
Not exotic but the fish are. Reef fishing in Bermuda was a blast.

I have like Canada but cannot travel there now because the borders closed. I liked mazatlan Mexico years ago caught some nice yellowfin tuna but I don't think that I will go back again because of the cartels in Sinaloa now. Hope to go back to Alaska when I can drive my RV there again. I caught a 95 lb. Halibut there off of Homer and lots of silver salmon in the kenai river. The king salmon spawn was over when I arrived in mid August. 🛶

If earlier in June, I recommend what is called The English River System in Canada, north of Minnesota. Mosquitoes are unbearable after June 15th or so. Days don't end until 10-11 pm. Use Native American guides if you are able. Walleye shore lunches everyday will beat about anything you can imagine! If you want wilderness experience, find Grassy Lake Lodge. You'll fly in or drive to a camp, and then load up in boats for a couple of hours into it.
There are also very comfortable lodges in other towns in this large lake system.

Well, it depends upon what you want to fish for. I have been on the Amazon River in Brazil and caught Peacock Bass which was a blast.

Mexico offers a lot, I have caught a large striiped marlin, black bass, both PB for me there.

Puerto Rico and Costa Rico for Tarpon and snook.

All were a lot of fun. Just Sayin....RJS

that sounds good to me

When I was 17 (1965) I spent a couple of weeks canoeing and fishing in the Boundary Waters in Canada by Lake Saganaga. That was totally a wilderness area at that time, absolutely beautiful, crystal clear water, pike and small mouths were more than abundant. A trip of a life time. And yes, there were mosquitos the size of robins. And they were HUNGRY!

I know it’s still the USA, but I got to enjoy a little fishing in Kauai, Hawaii here just several years ago and had a great time. I was fishing the Ocean just from a beach or two but caught several different species. You don’t even need an Lic. To fish in the ocean there, just one if you choose to fish freshwater. My wife and I both actually hooked a small HammerHead off one of the piers, it didn’t stay on the line long but did get to see it jump when it cut the line.

I've fished over much of the globe, but four trips stand out in my memories: ice fishing in the Arctic with
Inuit tribe members; catching tigerfish in Africa; fishing for saltwater species and freshwater butterfly
bass in Nicaragua; catching cod in Sweden.

Ret. US Navy. While on station in the Indian Ocean, we would take a break on Diego Garcia, a British territory. Crazy big fish, broke heavy trolling rods. Big sharks I would guess.

Costa Rica by all means. Best friend to the USA in Latin America. The tarpon are a ball. Florida tarpon may weigh 90 lbs, these will be 140. Catch them near shore from a small boat or even from the shore. Freshwater have some very interesting choices also. Enjoy yourself off the water too. People are superb.

Second that on Costa Rica.

I have fished the English River many, many times starting in 1965. Fishing is better now than in 1965. A spectacular system. The mosquitos are not as bad as you say.

BTW, the fishing for big northerns seems better in the fall. This is different than other Canadian waters I fish (which seem to have better pike fishing earlier).

For muskies, the later you can go, the bigger the average size fish.

I vote for Canada both for numbers and quality and the spectacular beauty of the wilderness.
