I've been stuck on the topic of poly or tapered leaders. I mainly fish dry flies on still water, and know how great poly leaders are for casting with light dry flies, however have had issues with them coiling up and not being able to straighten them meaning they need to be replaced. Although I don't really like tapered leaders, I think it may just be because in not used to them. Would it be a good idea to try get used to tapered leaders or just stick with poly leaders and just try to be more careful with them?

Never tried it. I use tapered line but thought about trying braid for leader.
Use a tapered leader of appropriate length. Cut off the tippet at about three feet and install a small tippet ring. tie on the tippet material you cut off. As it gets shorter from changing Flys just tie on another length of whatever tippet material you choose. The little ring will float and makes a good place to tie on a dropper. It will sink if you put ona heavier weighted nymph.
Why cut off the tippet to start with? I fish it until I have changed flies about 6 or so times, and then cut it off and go to the tippet rings.
Get a "line straightener", that basic little gadget that has two silver dollar-sized leather (or some have fake leather ?) patches that you you run your leader through, while pinching.... easy-peasy fix for that "line memory" prob.
Have no idea what braid is even doing in the conversation, FinFisherman... give us a hint as to where and WHY, please ??
