Baitcasting drag. Help needed.

I have 2 abu garcia Promax baitcasting reels and one of them will not allow me to pull drag at all. I have tried loosening the drag, reel tension knob and breaks and nothing has worked. I am pretty new to baitcasting reels so I am wondering what I am missing. Any help is appreciated.

I would go on YouTube and search how to disassemble the reel. I’m pretty sure it’s similar to the silver max and black max reels. There’s a very good instructional vid on how to do this. I’m sure you will see what’s up right away, it’s pretty simple inside. Plus you will get the added bonus of cleaning it and learning how to do this yourself!

I will give it a watch. I do like to fix things myself. I took apart a spinning reel once and it didn't end well.

I used to be scared to take my reels apart, but they are fairly simple. Just pay attention to where everything goes and have a nice clean spot to lay out the part so you don’t loose any.

Thanks. I took it apart and finally figured out that the drag washer was totally stuck to the main gear and the washer that holds it in there. So stuck I had to tap it free with a screwdriver and hammer. Got it working again.

Loosen the nut in the center of the handle. Might have been over tightened from the factory. Possibly reverse threaded also.

Another thing to remember. When you are done fishing, loosen your drag all the way. If your drag stuck once, it will probably stick again if you leave it set.

Loosen all of the nobbs to take the pressure off of the internal workings. If you're going to take it apart take pics. as you remove each part laying the parts in order of removal. When you being to part the reel together you have an organized reversal step by step. Pics. are if there are any questions you need to ask yourself. I said pics. but you can video yourself doing it also.
