Loc: Lake Onalaska, Sunfish Capitol of the World!
I read this morning that Mauwehu's wife wants to move to FL. Plum moved, and a lot of other people have already sold their house, and are looking very seriously. I have considered it for over a year. Is it our age, the economy, the pandemic, what is it?
don't forget to throw in Politics, Homeless, Illegal Aliens (errr, non-citizens), Cost of Living... I read recently that 1000 people a day move to Florida.
I believe you guys have it covered.
I have yet to find the ideal place to retire to, though
I've lived my whole life in Illinois. Told my kids when they left home they should get out of Illinois and set roots elsewhere. It's corrupt and expensive. One went to Milwaukee and one went to Denver. Three stayed in the Chicago area.
New Yorkers are leaving in droves. Unfortunately when they leave they want to bring the city with them.
I would consider it if it were not that all my kids and grandkids live close by. I love the weather, and the country side but hate the societal decay, politics, cost of living and taxes. That being said it is a lot easier to transplant a young tree than an old tree. the young tree has less roots is more resilient but old trees once you disturb and cut the root structure often don't far to well when they are moved. I think that is sort of how I see moving at my age with all the roots I have where I live. not sure I would far to well after the move. But I understand why so many are making the choice to move and do wish them well
My wife hates the cold. We got a home in Florida and the plan was to move there permanently in about two years. BUT, now grandkids have arrived and my mom is doing well at 94. Cassie wants to stay here now. I guess we'll be doing the snowbird thing instead of moving. Floridians hate snowbirds...so I'll be a snowbird that is stuck in crappy Illinois.

I sure understand the grandkids thing. Mine live about three hundred yards down the road. Three on the right and two on the left side of the road. I have zero chance of getting my wife out of here. My one daughter moving 20 miles away in April is causing major trauma.
Here in California, a lot of us love the climate but just can't take the politics any more.

I got out about a year ago after 35 years in CA, miss my friends and it ends there.

I thought that was a National issue.
It's getting there Oz. Also getting close to the penthouse 😁
Aside from the politics in California, I should have mentioned that it's a bloody expensive state to live in.
