Cattle lost by just one Rancher

Today, in a telephone conversation with one of my cousins in North Texas who runs cattle, I asked about his herd. He said he gotten them all down close to home sheltered in a thick stand of trees and close enough to keep them fed and watered. He had not lost any of his herd.

However, he had heard by the grapevine that a rancher near Nocona had lost 20 head of cattle. This was a blizzard of serious consequences. I expect there will be more reports of serious losses. There have already been several unnecessary deaths from freezing due to the lack of any heat, for the loss of electricity to keep dialysis equipment operating, and such. I also heard that Galveston had an emergency request for more body bags to handle their casualties there.

While one might ask why didn’t they call for assistance, be taken to the hospital, or such? Well, these are old folks, and who really knows, perhaps their phone battery had run down, or they had become disoriented and were not able to respond or call for help. These emergencies can overtake some before they realize they really need help. Just like the Nocona rancher, who would have taken different measures had he realized he was going to have such a loss of his cattle, he would have done something different. You Dont Mess With Texas! Just Sayin…RJS

Can you imagine what it would have been like if we would have had dairy farmers down here like we have up in MN. & WI.

Well, Even in the cold snow and sleet, I would have hired a tractor trailer rig and taken those frozen cows to a butcher! Think how much BBQ there'd be in 20 cows? Just Sayin....RJS

Our local hospital has a back up generator. I am surprised that that hospital didn't have one?
