streamer flies

ok guys don"t laugh. i am not a trout fisherman { although i do have a fly7 rod 8 wt. ] what kind of fish can i catch on a streamer fly?

Welcome to the Forum, david. An 8 wt. is a little heavy for trout, I use my 8 wt. for salmon & reds. You can catch most fish with a streamer, but not my favorite fly unless I'm fishing slimedogs.

Fly, I’m assuming slime dogs are northern pike, please correct me if wrong.

Streamers are very appropriate for trout in specific rivers and lakes ! They are big trout producers especially in rivers that display heavy flows ! Coupled to a Teeny line and fished correctly they are big trout candy!

I suppose that most any fish that will take a minnow would take a streamer. I started using streamers up in northern Maine trolling for landlocked salmon from a canoe. The action of paddling the canoe gave the streamer a staggered movement. Depending on where you are located, I would expect walleye would be a good candidate.
