I’m thinking about adding an anchor trolley to my kayak. I predominantly fish the same lake near my house. The depths I fish at are between 2 to 20 feet. If my length of anchor line needed is constantly changing how would I attach it to the trolley? All of the setups I’ve seen are using a single length of rope with a loop at the end attached to the trolley.

Tie a series of knots in your rope and use a carabiner to attach it to the anchor trolley. Make sure you get a trolley that goes all the way from the front to the back of the kayak. I made the mistake of getting a half trolley and it kept me from changing the direction of the kayak for casting up or down stream. Or if the wind on the lake is blowing you around.

If I understand this correctly, you could just add a simple cleat to control the amount of anchor rope you let out. Move the ring which determines the point of anchor, then control the depth separately.

I use a cleat on my anchor trolley and let as much rope out as needed then tie the rope off to the cleat.

If you are in shallow water you could use an anchor pole and run it through or attach it to your trolley ring. This much easier, quieter and less likely to spook the fish nearby. Plus easier to just pull up and move. When I use my anchor I will let out the amount of line I need and then use a carabiner to attach the anchor line to the trolley ring. This still allows me a quick disconnect incase of emergency or to fight a big one. Make sure you have a float on your anchor line so you don’t lose it and can get you back to the same spot. I also have a miniature zig zag cleat just above the trolley to secure the line to the Yak also if I like.
