I bought a dobyns fury ml combined with an ultegra reel for drop shotting. I've got 10 lb braid with 5 lb flouro leader. I'm going for smallmouth bass in the 1 to 5 range. I've seen several folks argue for a medium rod and heavier line but I've also seen plenty of people go this direction. Lend me your thoughts

You will have a lot of fun with that combo, but a 5lb smallie can be a handful on a ML rod. The 10# braid is strong enough, but so thin it may cut in on itself on the spool and may cause casting issues. I speak from experience and may go with a 30# braid for the above reason. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I think your setup sounds fine. I think you will like it a lot. Let us know how it works.
Your rod and reel should be fine. In fact sounds like a sweet set up. I would consider bumping up to 20 pound braid and 8 pound flouro leader.
Not absolutely necessary but a little safer. Especially if big smallies are around.
The larger braid will handle a little better.
Pay attention to drag settings. You don’t want to lock it down. If a 2 pound smallie pulls drag a little. You are set right.

That's what I use for my drop shot rig also. It works really well. Plus the 20# braid helps when I get snagged in any trees or whatever.
