Hi guys, it been a tough 5 days, no power, no heat, no water, everything runs on electricity down here, so when the power goes out, everything stops. We got the first power on today, that we had had since Sunday night. Still, no water, because the main water line froze up and broke. So, we are flushing our toilets by hauling water up from the swimming pool. I had brought along a 5 gal. pail in which to wash my car with, and it's by a busy pail. The condos were cold, no heat. The food shelves are empty, the gas pumps, can't operate without power. It's a real mess! Marion has a Drs, appt. on Monday and I think we are heading North shortly after that, so I going to have to give up my "Good Mornin'" job to whoever wants it. Sorry, guys, I'm not reliable anymore.

Sorry about your situation Fly. Please be careful on your ride home. Take care of Marion and don’t worry about anything else. We can wait for you to be unreliable when you get home. 😜

I dont know why Texas doesn't have emergency generators like Florida. Most gas stations and grocery stores + individuals have generators. You guys get hit with hurricanes as often as we do. Shoot for the last 30 years I've had some kind of generator. My most recent generator is the biggest Ive owned it will run my house A/C. Not at the same time as I run the stove or the water heater but I am comfortable and it wasn't to expensive. I wanted a duel fuel (gas & propane) but they didn't have one that put the power a straight gas does. So I keep 5-5 gal cans of gas which will keep the generator running a week. When they were doing the rolling black outs in Ca last summer I mentioned this I heard a few that makes sense. I'll think about it. Well here's a story thats true. I was maintenance supervisor for a company that bought an apartment complex in Savannah, Ga and they told me they wanted me to go there and run maintenance. Well I moved and of course my little 800 watt generator went to. As it was that was the year that a hurricane ran right over Savannah. It wasn't long and the powerlines were down. I drug that generator out nailed a piece of plywood over it and started the puppy up, ran an extension cord thru the door. That little gen had enough power it would start and run the refrigerator and one light. It wasn't long and we were getting people in the complex noticing we had lights. Wife explained to them we had refrigeration we would share with mothers that had babies that needed milk stored. We ended up with the refrigerator full of milk. I ran out of tape to wrap around the milk cartons. The power was only out for 3days. Oh yah the eye of the hurricane went right over us and that was weird it was late afternoon and in the eye the sky was clear, not a breeze the birds even started to sing. It didn't last long and the wind started again from the opposite direction.

Up here in Wyoming a few years back we were without power for about 10 hours (long outage for us) My sister was starting to get cold (she has her thermostat set at about 60 do you can guess at the inside temp), she called the power company to see if they at an et for when the power would be back on, the customer service rep asked her if she had checked her breaker box, Sis asked "Will that help the rest of the town?" We had power within an hour!

I spent the day plowing snow and got pretty chilled by the end of the day. House was only 56 degrees inside, as I hadn’t feed the wood stove for hours. I turned on the news and caught up on Texas weather and power outage. I gotta tell you I was feeling real bad for those folks with no heat. At least I had the ability to turn up the heat. Take care

At a time when the government would like you to be dependent on them, maybe it’s a better idea to be self sufficient. As the Boy Scouts taught Be Prepared!!
