It’s a spinner bait and it’s one of the best bass fishing lures you can use. All you have to do is cast it near anywhere bass hang out and reel it back in. It’s the only lure I always keep on a rod while bass fishing.

No you don’t need a weight. All spinner baits come with some type of weight as the head of it.

Let me piggyback off of this. Is there a way to make this weedless?

They already mostly are. The blade and the wire frame help deflect stuff away from the hook. Hard cover at least, weeds/grass/SAV will foul the blade.

There’s a lot of heavy vegetation where I fish so I always use plastics for bass. I have better luck with that. Thought about using a spinner for river over lake.

I throw a spinner bait on first and start casting. You can cover a lot of water and see where the bass are biting. It’s quick and easy to get you started and then you can dial in with other gear once you find the bass!

You can seriously enhance the effectiveness of this bait by adding a 2" or 21/2" black pork rind eel from Uncle Josh. A similar length of tail section from a plastic worm will work if pork rind isn't available.

I used one this morning and caught 2 nice keepers on it before hooking a grass stalk and breaking it off. I was using a double gold willow leaf spinnerbait. Casting into the grass (several different types) and working it out. The one you showed is a short arm colorado(?) blade. You can cast and start reeling it back in and stop reeling and it will helicopter down causing vicious strikes. One of the first spinnerbaits made and still in use with the pros. Try it out.
