Why is fishing not allowed in some ponds?
Me and my friend have been going around the area and looking for ponds to fish in. Some of them have no fishing signs, and one of the ones we went to had a security guard stop us and tell us to leave. I’m just curious what problems fishing causes that puts the owners off from letting people fish there. Is it just stuff like people leaving behind fishing lines and trash? Or is there some other reason?

I’m not sure where you are but I’m here in Northern California and most of the levees in the Sacramento delta area don’t allow you to park and fish 🎣 from the levees because of the trash problem a lot of the local farmers are tired of cleaning up all the garbage and you can’t blame them for being mad 😡
Could be litter, pollution or liability?

Probably all of the above OJ.
Ponds can be very small ecosystems that the landowner may have invested heavily in, some even hiring fish biologists to manage them, and could be quickly decimated by overfishing open to general public.
A lot of factors but been my experience
Litter by disrespectful fishermen
Keeping fish or keeping too many caught fish. Again disrespectful
Bottom line , again in my experience lack of respect.
Two reasons...epa and liability.

Bottom line, go ask for permission first. Explain that you are there for the recreation only (catch and release). If they say you can keep a few then offer to share. The hassles and downfalls of trespassing aren't worth it. You'll find something - don't give up!

Another reason could be liability. If the owner allows people on his property and someone gets hurt the property owner could be sued. That's the times we live in. There's always somebody looking to get rich quick and shyster lawyers looking to help 'em.
If 90% of the fishermen would pick up trash left by the 10% who litter, fishermen would be more welcome. I always find it perplexing that some people will fish in a pretty area, and then leave their cigarette butts, beer cans, bait containers, etc. behind.
Have fished small ponds that take a lot of time a trouble to get to. Way off the beaten path. What did I almost always find. Trash left behind by others. No wonder people do not want others on their pond.
Foot prints and tire tracks is all I ever leave behind , again respect
The biggest problem I have with litter people leave behind is that I’m sure when they came with their stuff it was heavier than when they left it so what’s the big deal taken it out it’s sure a lot lighter
Owner of 6 ponds, I used to let people fish but it has been said already, #1 Liability after that picking up trash filling in tire tracks having to tell them multiple times catch and release going in late at night getting stuck sorry but a few bad apples have ruined it for the bunch. Now if they are caught site them for trespassing it’s a shame it has to come to that but enough is enough.
Why is it bad apples ruin it but good apples never fix it
