Hey everyone I’m a bit of a newbie fisherman and I’m coming here for some help with my rod. Because I’m new to everything I’m not sure what the correct terminology is but my line is all set up on the reel but I can easily pull it back out even when the bail is down. Any thoughts?

Does it make a clicking sound when you pull it? If so tighten your drag. But not to the point that the line breaks before the drag let's line out.

If not, make sure there isn't a switch allowing the reel to move freely both directions.

It’s likely one of two things. Check to see if the line itself is spinning around the spool without the spoil itself moving. If it’s is, you’ll need to re-spool as the line wasn’t spoiled tightly enough. If it’s not, and the spool is engaged and spinning , tighten the drag. The drag is either a dial knob on the front of the spool or the ver ass end of the reel.
