4wt Glass or 3wt Graphite?

Other than the action, what would the “real” differences be while in usage? I’m looking to expand my rod collection and have something on the lighter side for dries and nymphs.

The reddington butter stick is pretty Narley. Slow action fiberglass rod. Super nice presentation with dry flies.

It's kind of hard to separate the "real differences" other than action, length and distance.

I've got 4wts in 7'6" klassic glass, 7'6" fast graphite, 10' klassic glass and 9' moderate slow graphite and the only one I would buy again is the 9' 4wt Redington Classic Trout which is a moderate action graphite rod. It's capable of soft, easy 35-40' casts all day long with litle effort, but not at all suited to longer casts. But, then neither are the other 4wts.

All are short reasonable stream distance rods. The 7'6" rods are just even more distance limited. They're basically 30 footers in the real world that can do 40 foot lawn casts occasionally. The graphite 9' Redington Classic Trout is pretty soft action, much like a glass rod, but is the one I'd pick for very light nymphing, dries in most situations and all around use. It's just super easy to cast if you keep your effort and expectations reasonable. If you try to muscle it you'll wind up with tailing loops and wind knots in short order. But if you are gentle with it, it'll gently shoot flies 40' with accuracy.

I paid a little more, but you can get one on Amazon for $99. About the only way I would even consider a 3wt would be in the more nymphing dedicated 10' or 11' categories ( which are basically 4wts due to the rule of increased lengths), and for my use that is not yet really <ahem> indicated. YMMV
