Freshwater spinning reel size

I am getting back into fishing and I got a baitcaster with 12# line and a medium heavy rod.

I wanted a smaller spinner to complement it, and do some finesse fishing. I picked up a pfleuger president XT 3000, and am now wondering if I should have gone with the 2000 or 2500. Mainly for panfish, trout, smaller bass. Another factor is that the smaller reels have a gear ratio of 5.2:1 vs the 6.2:1 on the 3000.

Should I exchange it or just stick with the 3000?

3000 is a nice versatile size I'd stick with it.

It mostly depends on what kind of line you want to use. Braid or thin mono is better for smaller reels while fluoro or thicker mono wants a bigger spool.

Gear ratio in and of it’s self does not mean much, it plus the spool diameter are what determines retrieval speed.

For what you're fishing for, a 1000 size would be plenty. Although a MH rod and 12 lb. line doesn't sound like finesse fishing.

I would go with a 2500 or a 1000 from Florida fishing products ,they are great reels and have an great drag ,I have caught a lot of bass on my 1000 and 2500 ,can handle salt water inshore easy .
