We have learned that our Good Samaritans who have taken us in are now expereincing trouble with their water heater. It appeas their heater had died. There was a mysterous gush of water flowing down their wall. Calls to plumbing companies often are either unanswered or they get hung up on.

In the mean while, news informs all that all the hotels are overbooked, and even though those in Houston and Galveston are without power, they are taking folks in the to stay in their lobbies to protect them from the freezing cold wind and sleet/rain.

i suppose there will now be a race between body counts of frozen deaths and Covid-19 deaths. Has 2021 started off with as much fun, yet? Just Sayin...RJS

Well, from the local news it appears there will be some lawsuits due to the negligence or mal management of the power supply. This is the very first time I've ever spent almost 24hours in bed covered up with a ton of quilts and blanket. Just Sayin...RJS

Bet there will be a demand for wood burning stoves in parts of the Lone Star State in a few days!

Sorry to hear that RJ. I’ve always heard that you do things bigger in Texas- including power outages?
We’ve been following the Texas weather news up north. I’m guessing that you have heat pumps on your AC systems which are meant for chilly not cold. The power companies have the politicians in their pockets. In Ct last summer we lost our power for 9 days. I’m not used to sleeping at 85 degrees. A lot of people got upset with their politicians and they ended up in everyone’s radar. Things changed for the better. We also lose our power in the winter which is less miserable. I have a gas fireplace that pumps out 50,000 btu’s that takes care of our downtime.
Praying that things improve for you and Texas soon.

Yeah and make sure you get one that doesn’t require an “electric” fan. Some do....🐟on

RJS hopefully your friends were able to shut the water off to the heater allowing them to continue to cook, drink water and use the bathroom. We never got above 27 degrees today but still have electricity. If it goes out we have a natural gas whole home generator. I would venture a guess that many more people will be having them installed. If you need some plumbing advice in the short term give me a PM. Plumbers are going to be in high demand along with their rates. Good luck.
