What model are you using? I took a quick look on the Zebco website and only saw one model-looked like an antique salt water model to me.
Spend some time looking at reviews on You-Tube. All of the majors have a "beginner" model with decent features. I personally have Lew's, Bass Pro and Pflueger. Hang in there. Use decent line. Take your time and practice in the backyard.
I bought a zebco baitcaster combo yrs ago for $30. I wanted to learn w/o spending alot of money. I learned to spend enough to get a quality reel. You can get a decent starter reel at a resonal price. If you learn how to use baitcaster you'll want to upgrade. Alot of guys give up on them. They require ALOT of practice. Its a luv it or leave deal. Personally i luv mine good luck
Go on line and find out how to "tune" your reel. Start from there. You can also learn quick ways to get out birds nests that occasionally happen.
What is the model number of your Zebco?
Tactical bassin is a real good place to learn how and why, when, etc for everyone especially beginners fishing mostly bass but other fish too, gear, how to all of it
I looked up zebco baitcaster. Saw their name connected to quantum smoke reel. They've moved up.
