Hi all I fished lake Michigan out of gills rock around Washington island in the 1980 to 1989 then the salmon population tanked. I have not been back since but now I've Retired and am looking to going back again. I live in central Minnesota and fish lake of the woods superior when it possible. Almost hit the rocks off death door in my 18' crestliner one year.🛶
Adri... glad you missed those rocks!

Mornin' Adrian, I still fish Lake Mich. a lot, but not as much as when they had the Salmon Bowl. It was a weekly trip from S.E. MN. then. Having fished it, you know that you have to have good equipment. I usually fish the Marinette to the Manitowoc area, primarily around the Stergion Bay/Peshtigo area, and lately, I have found it to be very fickle. Some times you will catch a boatload of walleye and some times you won't catch a thing. Then there is always the weather to consider. I have been making fewer trips out there the last few years, but that could be an age thing. Keep us posted on your happenings.

Still plenty of salmon and trout in the lake, but the zebra mussels have the water so clear the light penetration has driven the fish deeper. Head S toward Sheboygan and Port Washington and beyond.
The bay is still full of walleyes and smallies, plus big muskies if you like. As for the perch, they seem to be was South toward the IL border and beyond.
Spent my summers on the island as a youth in the 50's and 60's (grandfather was a commercial fisherman there). Haven't fished it in 20 years but still know people on the island. Still has awesome smallmouth fishing, ice out large pike, and late summer/fall walleye off the north shore bluffs by Washington harbor. The salmon are still there, just not in the numbers of the 80's.
It was great fishing in the 1980,s I would fish four of us out of my 18' crestliner Fiberglass boat I ran Penn downriggers with 8 lb weights with slider spoons. And dipsey divers or planning boards depending on the boat traffic, had 16 lures out at different depths and it felt like driving a oar boat out there as far as depth and width. We did catch a lot of fish though. 🛶
