How do I catch trout?

I'm somewhat new to fishing and my local lake is stocking it with trout. I have no idea what lures to use to catch trout. Anyone know what makes them bite?

Stocked trout are different than naturals, theyll be much easier to catch.you want light tackle. 4-8 pound mono. As for bait you can go with little lures (spinners, spoons, cranks, etc) or you can go hook and bobber utilizing stuff like power bait or live bait. If you need more specific info let me know.

I've got 20lb spider wire stealth braid on my pole which should be fine, I have a few small spoons, but thanks for the tips.

Dont use that. That lines too big and too heavy. The lures you need to throw are going to be small. Youll never get them out there with that. I run with the same braid, highly reccomend not using it for trout.

I've actually seen some videos of people using pink playdough with pretty decent results. The only complaint was that it sank too much, but otherwise was good.

I often use Panther Martin spinners, mostly the smaller ones. The stockers in this area tend to hit well on yellow with red, but under ideal conditions they will generally hit on anything. Some folks like the small "Super Duper" lures for the wobble. Others like the "Rooster Tail" and the "Buck Tails." Unless you're dealing with wild trout of remarkable size, 20 lb test line is too heavy and limits casting distance. I recommend using nothing heavier than 8 lb test.

Trout see line better than other fish and heavy line spooks them. Use 4 to 6lb line or leader. Fluorocarbon is even better.

Yep, 4 or 6 lb. fluorocarbon with berkley power bait rig, or light spinners and spoons. even salmon eggs rigged with float. All bait should be about 18" or so above bottom or weeds. Trout are not bottom feeders. Use a spinng reel and pole if possible, the longer the pole and lighter the line, the further the cast.

O yea, I left out an important part. If possible use ultra light or light gear. The lighter the gear, more fun the fight. And trout are soft mouth, so lighter the gear the more give the pole will have if the trout jump, and trout are good for that. Be sure to set a light drag
