Okay, so I live in IN and haven't fished for about 2 years. Just tried picking up the hobby again this week and I'm afraid I lost my touch. I tried earth worms for hours yesterday and I spent probably 4-5 hours today switching between sinkos, spinners, and even jigs (rarely ever used.) Please note, I didn't fish in one spot in particular. I tried the local river and two ponds. Any tips or advice on something new to try?

What are the conditions of the location? Murky? Were other people catching fish? Is this a spot you used to fish?

Sorry I should have been more specific. The river is extremely murky but shallow. Both ponds (private), and the other (public) are both extremely clear with very little weeds but rocky. With both exceeding a depth of 10ft and very clear. I am very eager to get back into fishing. I am not to sure what I could be doing wrong, for the most part I know my lures and how to use them. I also have been using a baitcaster which is very new to me.

I would suggest to pack lightly with a spinning rod and different tackle, walk and try different spots on the river until you find fish or fellow fishermen to chat with. This always helped me in the unknown areas.

Please excuse me if my thoughts seem a bit extreme... after all, I was not with you on your recent fishing trip... and, of course, I didn't see the waters where you were fishing.
You obviously have some solid good fishing experiences during your life. Is it possible that the time that has passed has allowed the fishing conditions to change from what you remember in these fishing spots? Maybe, you want to concentrate on what the fishing conditions are now, as compared to what you remember... just saying. :)
Best Regards and Good Luck!

I would go back to the basics like you've never fished before. Use simple baits like a nightcrawler or some live minnows and be patient. Fish a spot for 30 minutes or so and if no bites try a new area. As for jigs, try a simple jighead with a small rubber spinner tail in standard colors that most any fish in the pond will eat. That should give you a good idea of what kind of fish are in there and then you can modify your tactics from there. You also can't go wrong with a simple minnow hanging from a bobber. The best gear in the world will not help you if you don't know what you're fishing for.
