I've been reading Fishing Stage for a few months and contributed a little in the last month. I enjoy the friendly banter and jokes as well as fishing help. My question is what do you do for a living or what did you do before retirement? Do you have hobbies besides fishing? Do your kids fish with or without you? I was a machinist for 20 years. Then a stay at home dad for 13 years. Now I work part time in a property management company. The youngest of our 5 kids is my fisher girl, 23. How do you guys and ladies pass the time? Ed

Howdy,

I'm a manager in an IT department for a large company. I'm planning on retiring in the next 18 - 24 months. Besides fishing my hobbies are mostly dog related. We do agility. Before the pandemic we visited nursing homes as one of my dogs is a Certified Therapy Dog. We can't wait to resume that! I also volunteer with Patriot Paws. They are an organization that provides service dogs to veterans.

Retired from US Navy in 1989, 21 years service. I was an Electronics Technician but most of my career was spent playing tennis. Went to work for Hewlett Packard after the Navy and retired this past September. I traveled all over the world in the Navy and was fortunate enough to get to fish most of the places I went. I have 6 grandkids, none of whom have much interest in fishing. 3 daughters and a son - it didn't rub off on any of them. What to do with all this gear before I move on?

Mistred, retired biology teacher here. Enjoy hunting as well as fishing and in retirement I’m renovating my youngest son’s home. He’s on the list for getting a new Brittany for grouse hunting ( his current passion) so when that rascal arrives I’ll assist him with training. Really looking forward to it.

Welcome mistred64. I worked 30 years in the newspaper business as a reporter, district manager and circulation sales manager back when people read newspapers. Now I work as an in-home caregiver helping people. Done that for 9 years now. I live in rural TN. Love working on my acre of land, traveling, going out to eat. Plan on taking advantage of the great fishing near me.

Oh, btw, I am the unofficial grand poobah of the knuckleheads club(FS members) and wake them up every morning with some lame joke. I have 4 adult children, all in WI. None of them fish.

Most of y’all know I’m a carpenter and son of a carpenter. I started working summers with my dad when I was 8 years old, building houses in KCK and Olathe, Ks. By the time I was a senior in high school, I was also drawing and designing house plans for the builder we worked for. About five years after graduating from HS, the interest rates skyrocketed and forced the new housing market into a downward spiral. That’s when Dad and I started our remodeling business, which lasted for 39 years till I retired in 2017. My body said “ENOUGH”!

My interests outside of work were/are fishing, bird hunting, traveling, and leading Praise and Worship at our church.
My main fishing buddy is my son, but I also love to take the grandkids out and teach them. My daughter and SIL don’t fish, so I’ve still got four of their five yet to teach (taught one so far).
My son is doing a great job of teaching his as shown below.

I gave the Air Force 5 years as a crew chief on fighter jets, then worked for airlines for a few years after that but didn't care for it. I was a firefighter for a few years, then went back to school to learn electronics. That had been a hobby since I was a kid. I finished my working days as a field service engineer for a company that makes environmental sensors. I traveled all over the world for that job and loved it, then retired at 70. That was about 5 years ago. Now that I'm retired, I view all the jobs I've had and the work I've done and all the career building as just stuff I did to get to here. Being retired is where it's at!
