Hey all, was looking for some suggestions for a new frog rod, I will probably be using it for small/medium sized swimbaits too. Looking to spend around $150. Thanks!

If you can handle the length then an
iRod Fred’s Magic Stick is a crazy good frog/heavy topwater/5” swimbait stick. It’s got a forgiving tip for casting and a lot of ass. I have fished a 2.5oz BBZ Rat on mine and it will handle it but the rod is clearly at it’s upper limit. A Hudd 68 Special is too much and I had an awful time setting the hook. But for stuff lighter then that it’s a hell of a rod for $150.

IRG754F “Fred’s Magic Stick”
Originally designed by Fred as frog rod but it became so much more. Similar to the IRG744C but with a bit more beef. Its a great rod for frogs, toads. flipping, big worms and jigs.
Length: 7’5″
Lure weight:1/2 – 2oz
Line weight:50-70lb braid, 12-25lb
Power: Heavy
Action:fast/moderate

It’s a great rod, I would love a second one with the same power/action but like 6’6” long for tight spots.

Mag Heavy Dobyns Fury. I use it for frogs and punching.
It's great for the price! Academy has a sale at the beginning of the Summer months (in Texas) on all their stuff and you can usually get one for like $80. Otherwise they are $110.

If you have never used a heavy action rod you may want to see if anybody you know has one so you can test the casting. At first, I felt I was trying to cast with a 2X4 due to the stiffness but after using it and learning from others and myself I began to enjoy it. The new frog rods are built differently than the older stiffer rods. Wish you luck.
