If one stopped and thought for a moment, it would be obvious that over my lifetime, I would have encountered a few very interesting people, power brokers, politicians, money management gurus, and several ladies of the evening, or mademoiselle de talon Neuse, hookers.

Now, it has never bothered me to encounter another professional plying their trade. I have never chosen to become a buyer of their services, but they are interesting people to meet and with whom to carry on a conversation.

The fist encounter I can recall was in Galveston when I was to take over as hospital representative of the Houston Medical Center and John Sealey Hospital complex in Galveston. It had been a whirlwind day because the Sealey complex is quite large, and complex with both the domicile of a medical school and teaching hospital. Most of the places I did my best to just remember how to get back to where they were located. I wrote down hundreds of names, and just hoped that I could remember a few of the people I was meeting.

That evening after we finished we then visited the several “watering holes” nearby. This was the gathering place for many of the resident and intern physicians, and even some of the staff. One such place was known as “The Other Clinic” and then there was a famous joint, The Green Door that had a reputation of trying to outwit the Galveston police and was famous for staying open and serving liqour long after hours. It was at this place that I made my first real contact with a professional

We had just been allowed in through an elaborate security system because Jim, the salesman I was replacing was well known there. It was crowded and as we went through an almost reception line, an exceptionally good-looking girl said, “Well, hello Bob!” And so, we struck up a conversation with me thinking we had met at one of the clinics or offices earlier in the day and I just had not remembered. Later, I asked Jim if he knew which clinic or office where she worked. He said, “No, she is a hooker, you still have your nametag on.” What a surprise!

While I am not intending to give you a lesson about hookers, anything but. I am not an expert and will only relate some of my casual contacts. Neither any of these ladies has ever purchase any of my products, nor have I any of theirs. Please go to Part 2 and 3. Just Sayin…RJS
