I want to buy a new pole, it'll be for lake fishing in the south east, USA. I just wanna catch fish right now, and the lake near me has largemouth bass, bluegill, channel cat, perch, crappie, etc.
What size pole? what size fishing line? Should I go to walmart or bass pro shops and just pick any cheap pole? Thank you!

I would get a medium weight rod and use around 8 to 10 pound test.

What do you think about length of rod? but a rod that comes with a reel or buy a separate reel?

Maybe 6 feet? And definitely a combo to start out.

7' medium or medium light. Find the pole you like. 10 lb power pro is a great line. Mossy green.

It's the color of the power pro braided fishing line. It's about the only line I use. If you looking for a brand of rod. I use St. Croix rods. For reels I use shimano or pflueger.

An Ugly Stick of medium size is adaptable to lots of environments.
Fishing poles? That's about all you'll see on the Vistula River.
It's in Poland, BTW.

Welcome to the Forum! Doc.
Hello, I find that a medium, 6' Ugly Stik is both dependable and fits any budget. I have been fishing Ugly for many years. From my ultra liters through my trolling long rods, I have never snapped one fishing and catching large fish. The only one I broke was when I closed the door of my F-150 on one that wasn't all the way in the back. I put a new tip on it, and it's my only 5'10" rod.
