I apologize for the gross pictures attached. When I was a kid I wanted to get dark brown tan every summer and usually was successful. Even when I was in my 20's and later, this was the style. Young women would go to tanning salons to get an even tan without any lines.

Yeah, we used to try to get "a good healthy tan".
So far, I've had some basal cell carcinomas removed, no big thing there. It's probably only a matter of time, though.

It's my understanding that it was originally fashionable to be pale, as a tan meant that you had to work outside - probably in the fields while the idle rich didn't have to expose themselves to the sun. They say that Coco Chanel began the idea of being fashionably tanned.

Dang, Bob that is serious, I hope you get a full recovery and that they got all the margins. Fortunately I don't live in a hot climate like you. I do remember however, going on a grade school outing to a neighboring lake with my class mates. As a little kid, I mistakenly thought as long as I stayed in the water I would be ok for sun burns. I didn't have any protection. This was either late 1940s or early 1950s. Well my back really got burned bad I had huge 1/4th desert plate size blisters on my back. It was so painful I couldn't stand the weight of a bed sheet laying on my back. Sun burn exposure is cumulative.

Hi Robert. Unfortunately too many of us never thought about sunblock or skin cancer when we were young. My wife and I both had some removed others frozen. My wifes 3 brothers all had problems. Her baby brother ignored it and it got ahead of him. After a 5yr battle it took him. When I'm out i use block and spf shirts hats face covering and gloves. Good luck stay safe

Hi Bob,

I’m glad that you had them removed and are recovering. God and Jean will be taking care of you for a while.
They didn’t look that bad last October but surgery makes them looks worse for a while.
I guess that you won’t be going fishing this week. 😳
Garry
