Sorry, but I am not referring this physician as Dr. Feel Good who dispensed amphetamines, or any of the “get high” narcotic drugs. I am rather referring to the use of injectable Vitamin C in high does, along with an assortment of B complex vitamins. When an elderly patient decides it is time to see their doctor because they may be dehydrated, and sometimes malnourished, so a massive injection of Vitamin C and the B Complex vitamins will have an immediate effect. While such an injection does not have a long-term effect, I am not going to second guess the physician.
While I never kept a precise count we regularly stocked 1, 000 vials in one of the local drug stores to make sure we had the rock bottom price. This practice had been going on before took over the territory, so I continued to use this pharmacy as a depot. As a special quirk, I would always approach the Pharmacy area which was raise about a foot higher than the rest of the store and say, “Permission to come aboard, Sir!” He seemed to appreciate the formality.
He gave me one of my best compliments one year when it was time to order the annual stock of the injectable Vitamin C. I was not aware I had done anything special, but since he had a prescription to fill, I wandered around the front of the store and was particularly interested in the display of cameras.
When he finished filling the prescriptions, I asked him about his camera se******n. After we discussed this for a few minutes, I switched and got back to the purpose of my call, to get him to reorder the 1, 000 or 2,000 of the Vitamin C. He told me he was going to decline to purchase such a massive amount of the product, but since I had what he thought was a clever trick of distracting him and changing the subject, he went ahead and purchased the lot. He thought this was a learned sales gimmick, and I certainly kept the idea in mind for future reference. Just Sayin...RJS
