An Unusual Fish Fry!

It was in the summer of 1952 and my mother and sister had gone back to South Carolina with an Uncle and Aunt to visit some of our Cannon relatives. Dad and I remained at home. We stayed home because someone had to take care of our livestock for the two weeks they would be gone.

We were managing just fine until one day at noon we decided we would love to have some fried fish for lunch. To do this ordinarily my mother would take grease from a container in the pantry, heat it up in a sk**let and then after breading the fish, when the grease was bubbling hot, put the fish in to fry. Well, we got everything ready, was heating up the grease, but it began to smoke and bubble and give off an unusual smell. And the longer we left it, the worse it got.

Finally, Dad got what we thought was the container of cooking grease and inspected it, even finally tasting it, and instead of leftover grease it was really granulated honey, not solidified grease left over from cooking bacon! We had to throw out the entire ingredients and start all over. Everyone got a big laugh at our fumbling around when Momma got back home. Just Sayin…RJS

Why is this in the attic? I see nothing wrong with it.

you are right it belongs in the attic for that line "give off an unusual smell. And the longer we left it, the worse it got." this was obviously a dog whistle meaning to draw a political reaction over the state of our government, maybe even meant to insight a i**********n or something. you blurried eye radical you
