Kayak fishing: Newbie looking for advice

Just getting back into freshwater fishing after a long hiatus since I was a teen. My son (6) and I did a lot of bank fishing this past year and became jealous of the kayak fishers with their accessibility to the entirety of the lake. Been doing some research on buying one, but I'm honestly overwhelmed and don't want to make the wrong decision. Looking for a 2 seater, pedal operated, with a preferable max budget of $2K, but other than that, I have no idea what to buy, how to transport, etc. Hoping you kind folks could give this newbie some needed advice. Thanks in advance!

Field and Stream makes a nice rig. Perhaps they have a two seater. Comfortable seats are important.

Can't imagine two fishing from a kayak. Check out Vibe kayaks or better yet look at Sea Eagle STS10 inflatable. Trolling motor powered and no transportation problems.

Like the above, not sure if I would want two fishing out of the same kayak. Obviously your son is too young to be in his own boat, for a few years yet, so you might want to check out the "small boat" option, of which there are vast choices. I have 4 Sea Eagle products and could not be more pleased with all of them.
If you are set on getting a peddle kayak, and I can't say that I have seen one with 2 seats (?), I'm afraid that unless you can find a good used one, your budget is going to be hard to stick to.
Good luck to you and your son, great and lasting bonds are achieved by fishing with your father as a child....I can attest to that most wholeheartedly.

Ifn you go salt water fishin. Perch your yak on a kelp bed. Dont have fight the tide and guess where the cod are hanging. Small octopus for bait, you'll have one inside of a minute. Dont try and play um, gettem in the yak and head home for a snack. Oh my gosh I love fried cod.

12’ Jon boat was my dad’s go to vessel for many years. He put a monstrous 6hp Johnson on it and always took us upriver(me and my sister). I later learned we always went upriver in case we broke down. I put a trolling motor on it and it was a great size boat for two.

Dads are the best!! He'd bring back 50 brookies for lunch. Had to fight my sisters for the crispy tails.
Used to throw the brookie bones in the camp fire until I watched a chipmunk dash to the edge of the coals
and haul the bones out.
Then a tug of war started with a stellar jay over the remains. Always give um a toss on the ground now.
Ain't life grand?

I was on my maiden run in my 14' Costco yak ( 400.00 ) in Fresh Water Bay Wa. just W. of Port Angeles Wa..
Paddled out to the island cautiously. Headed back I spotted a salmon 200 yds. away jumping bout 15 20' horizontally, what the? Then straight up 10', for the love Pete?
My curiosity breaking out big time. I slowly got closer, turned out to be a pod of dolphins playin hack n sack with a salmon. Great location to pick up some green ling cod. Wish I was there.
