I recently bought a Maxcatch fiberglass rod. 7’6 3wt. Heck of a dry fly machine from what I hear. Here’s the deal, reading some reviews saying get a 4wt fly line for this stick. Does anyone have experience with this? Would a WF3 Line get the trick dine? Anywho, thanks a bill in advance!
Here’s to hoping spring comes soon am I right?

I always match the line with the weight of the rod. Some vary a little.
Back in the day, we would oversize our line X1 for casting.
Most new lines are oversized now. Even though it says 3wt 20 years ago it would have been a 4wt.
And much like many "designations" in fishing (reel size #, for example)... it's the manufacturer who "determines" that #..... not some "industry standard" unfortunately.
Without digital calipers and an extremely sensitive scale, 9,999 out of 10,000 experienced fly fisherpersons could not pick out the distinction between, if presented with half a dozen choices from various manufacturers.
With a glass rod definitely stick with a 3 weight.
Or is and most line manufacturers line runs a half weight heavier than marked
If you look at the box on Rio lines it says how much over it is.
Like you said dawg it starts at a 1/2 w over some go up 1 1/2.
