Quantum energy e5-4 reel. Anyone have or had one? One of my favorites. Would like to find another one!

Howdy JD. Glad to have you here. I started using the quantum E5-2 reel in the late 80's. I broke a handle right off, slammed a door on the handle, & took the reel to the Quantum factory store in Tulsa for a replacement. The guy gave me another handle & stated that the E5-2 was being discontinued for a newer model but he felt the E5-2 was the best spinning reel Quantum had ever made. I bought the last 6 reels in their store. I still have 2 new in the box plus 6 or 8 using reels. I know the E5-4 came out right after the E5-2 & had improvements. I've used a friends E7-2 reel & have been lusting after one but haven't been lucky yet. I've bought new Quantum spinning reels the last few years & haven't been satisfied with them. Shimano is beating Quantum out. I did buy from eBay a Quantum E5-1 that was new. I love that little little reel. I hope you find what you want. I watch ebay constantly & am always searching the used market. If I see a E5-4 I'll contact you. Good luck.

Thanks bottomcoon, Glad your happy with these reels as much as I am. I know there are a lot better reels out there. I have a few penn reels that are just as good. Maybe I'm just stuck in the 80's

Hello JD. There could be reels that cost more but I draw the line at better. Those reels are all metal so they are a little heavier than plastic. I've used them for 30 years. I've never had a bail failure, drag or bearing problem. I am hard on equipment but I am a stickler for maintenance. The E4-2 that you use looks exactly like the E5-2's I use. The E7-2 is a little different color. I'm in Mississippi this week fishing & will hit every bait, tackle & Pawn shop I see looking for older reels & lures. I'm mostly a baitcaster person & even my baitcast reels are from the 90's. They work wonderful. They may not have 7-1 gear ratio but I have never missed a fish that I could have caught if my lure was going a little faster. I think everyone should use whatever they feel comfortable with or whatever they feel is the current style. I'll stay with function. I have a couple older black Penn 209's. Haven't used them in over 20 years. Tight lines.

Thanks BC , Forgot to mention how good the anti- reverse is on these reels. Especially from the 80's. Good luck on your fishing trip! Tight lines.
