What to fish for on the waterway with flounder not an option and redfish limit to one. I know there are black drum but from what I read it sounds like they almost equate to freshwater carp... I’ll pass

Trout are most likely running in the deeper parts of the Pamlico and Pungo. Or they moved up stream. Tough time of year heard it is kind of slow out there right now.

Black Drum don't equate to carp. Somebody's blowing smoke. They taste like Red fish which is a Drum as well.
I am waiting for the end of February and the arrival of stripers by Cape Lookout shoals. But, yeah its slow right now.

Yea that 45 days last year produced only 3 keepers for me and that was fishing nearly everyday.
Once the 45 days were up 4 more the following month and back they went.

I am greatly interested in stripper fishing, currently I'm president of the Pinehurst CC fishing club and am hamstrung by the pandemic. Is there a means to make contact and discuss a mutual interest? Larry lklei235@cccc.edu
Hi Larry! I have been interested in striper fishing, as well as surf fishing, in general. We were on the island that makes up the east bank of the Cape Fear River. I think it was last year. Since I retired, and don't have to put dates on everything, I have lost track of time. My wife keeps track of it for me, though. When we were there, they were rebuilding the beach, dredging sand, and whatever. It seemed no one was swimming, fishing, anything. There is a boat ramp at a park on the east side. I caught one fish about 12". That is what I had to show for my weeks work. The locals told us it was dangerous to kayak in the Cape Fear, so we didn't. Other than the weather being nice, it wasn't such a great place to be.
Lawrence, I was just up to Fairport Harbor, Ohio for steelhead. We did quite well even though the weather did not cooperate. We fished the Grand and Chagrin rivers and constantly fought frozen lines. We go up 4 or 5 times a year for I truly enjoy the bite. When you are next down this way let me know and maybe we can get in some catching. Larry
