How do you guys have so far managed your expenses?
I tend to spend A LOT in fishing gear!

I take the wife with me. LOL That limits how much I can spend.
Runnersgo: Well, partner, stay out of tackle shops! Like if you are spending a lot of time in donut shops you are gaining weight? Look for the clues, Dick Tracy!
I dare say you don't use 1/2 of what you already own, and don't catch fish on 1/4 of that. So, slow down and fish more and shop less. Just Sayin...RJS

RG. I buy a lot of tackle off eBay. Several sponsored fisherman get new rods, reels and merchandise each year. They turn around and sell these items on eBay for a discounted price. A lot of pros are in there, but they do not use their real names. On occasion, their sponsorship will change and they canโt have the other sponsorโs gear in their Boat. I recently got lucky and ran into deal like that with G-Loomis rods with Shimano reels. I bought five rods with five reels (less than 2 years old) all for $1,000. I sold three of the rods and reels for the same I paid for all five of them; so in essence, I got two for free.
Just check out your sellers before you purchase.
Good luck.

My biggest spends nowadays is the lure that catches the fish, I have one I get at Walmart, 2 for just over $1 and keep plenty in hand as they're my main bass lure. I have plenty of everything else so it's only bait I need to purchase now
Your kidding right. Is this a trick question. ๐ค
It's easy. Have your bills paid and cash in your pocket go for it. Otherwise stay home.

I have to buy and test all lures to know what does not catch fish. I am an expert. I have to charge $250 per session for advice to (maybe) break even before I pass on.

I have a light rod that I use for all kinds of fishing. Have caught a lot of fish through the years. Bought it & a reel at Kmart for 15.00 over 20 years ago. Same rod different reels. Wore out a lot of reels. Donโt need to spend a lot of money.
Pawn shops, garage sales, 2nd hand stores, Good Will stores.... discount places.

That would do it, I had $150 worth of flies picked out, she "helped" me decide what we really needed for the McCloud, turns out it was only $60
Well, if you are anything like me........got a lot of what I call "Covid" gear! Not good to sit home and have Amazon Prime and Tackle Warehouse accounts. Got enought gear now to last the rest of my life me thinks.
I'm heading to Eagle lake, Mississippi next week. It's over 1200 miles round trip, motel, food, fuel, license & miscellaneous. If I worried about spending money on tackle I wouldn't take off & spend 12 or 1500 dollars trying to use it. If I hauled all my fishing gear with me I'd have to pull an extra trailer. I don't think I fully understood the question. Fishing budgets? Think I'll head up to Bass Pro. I think I need some Pink Lemonade Bobby Garland shad, some fresh Crappie nibbles & some assorted color hair jigs.
If our wives only knew!๐๐๐๐๐๐
