Looking for some advice for spring bass fishing . Do I start in deeper water ? And what bait is a good starting point?
First warm sunny spell will move them up shallow. 5 FT or so . Usually takes a few days in a row. They will seek out warmer water.
This is where the jerkbait earns its keep if the water is reasonably clear. find tjis depth adjacent to deep water and make long casts with a suspending jerkbait .Jerk jerk pause . Vary length of pause from as long as you can stand it to as short as 5 seconds. Then repeat.
The jerks don’t need to be real aggressive in cold water. Enough to get their attention.
If the water is pretty stained , a top water prop bait or slow buzz bait will get em.
Ok thanks !! Does color of bait matter for spring ??

Welcome to the Stage Newbebassfishing, In clear water I start with natural colors, shad, bluegill, yellow perch, etc.
Bait color to me is more dependent in water clarity and light penetration.
For jerkbaits Darker skies means darker baits , brighter skies lighter baits.
Clear water , natural finishes . stained water brighter finishes or white / chartreuse .
Occasionally loud colors shine. Clown , fire tiger, even pink.
I dont fish jerkbaits in muddy water.
Top water. Same way. Sunny skies white or bone. Cloudy days black
Awesome !!! Thanks . I could pick your brain all day . Lol
Early spring , if you can’t find em shallow, try hopping blade baits at edge of drops and down drop offs. They haven’t moved up yet. Or throw deep crankbaits on points.
As spring progresses and bass move to prespawn , lipless crankbaits , tubes . Chatterbaits spinnerbaits all produce. Ned rigs and senkos also work great later in spring.
What rod and reel . 7ft med heavy spinning reel 20lb braid line ?

Newbie. put the area you are going to fish in your browser, including “spring bass fishing.” It will give you ole ty of information.
Good luck
This is all good advice but much depends on where you are located and what kind of water you are fishing. In most locations where the temperature varies greatly seasonally, the fish got deep in the winter when the water is cold. As spring approaches and the surface temperature starts to rise, (50 degrees and higher) the fish will also begin to seek the warner water. Even a basic sonar will tell you what level the fish are seeking. the small bait fish will come to the warner water first followed by the predators. Water clarity and water conditions will help you decide on type and color of your lures but remember, the fish will be where the food is.
What part of Ohio are you at?
Looking forward myself getting out to wet some lines.
About 20 minutes East of Cleveland
