Spent a couple of hours on the pond with the SIL and grands. Got on the crappie right away, although 5 to 7 inches was the norm. SIL hooked a nice bass, but it decided it didn't want to come out the hole. Two inches of snow, 3 inches of slush and 6 inches of ice. Grands had fun making an impromptu live well for the 40+ we caught. Coons and coyotes will eat well tonight! I just wish we could put a bigger dent in the white crappie population in the pond. They are over populated, and this is about as big as they get.
Management of ponds is key to developing a fishery for quality fish and you’ve done your part. I however, would have probably filleted them even though they were smallish because I simply love them (especially through the ice) and I’ve got the time. Grandson looks like he had a fine time.
Good times there IF
Thanks for pics

That's about right. Funny, we caught a majority of them in the test hole I drilled to test the ice.

Nice job Farmer, you got a nose for fish too. Why waste time drilling a bunch of holes, you only need one!
Looks like fun to me. Ice or no ice. Raising those grandkids right. Great job sir.
Can’t wait to have grandkids of my own. Both boys are in their early 30’s, have long time girlfriends but still haven’t tied the knot. I’m itching to take some youngsters out.

Thanks, they really love the outdoors.
Hey Iowa Farmer. If own the pond cant you net a bunch out in summer months with a few or several boats?
Use them for bait or Garden Fert. Then would be fewer so food and space wont limit size. Seems like if did it for several years and never took too many they would get bigger.

Might be worth a try, but steep banks all around the pond make it difficult to launch a boat. It's deep, so wouldn't be totally effective but would sure help.

28° while we were out there. It was comfortable until the sun went behind the trees, then got chilly quickly. 🥶
