Hard to believe probably, and not all that easy.
What is the movie, and who's in the photo?

1. Demitrius and the Gladiators Victor Mature, maybe Susan Hayward
2. ? The Robe? Richard Burton?
3. Paul Newman ?
4. Cleopatra Richard Burton, Liz Taylor
5. (something like) White Christmas in the Army Bing Crosby, Danny Kay

...all guesses as, for a change, I didn't cheat

1. Victor Mature and Susan Hayward in ?
2. Julius Caesar?
3. Charleston Heston in the Greatest Show on Earth
4. Richard Burton and Jean Simmons in the Robe
5. White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen (with the 15” waist). We just watched it as part of our Xmas tradition...
I have seen #2, but apparently not that memorable πŸ˜‰

Number 2 might be 'The Robe',
but that's not Burton - looks more like Rod Taylor ! I believe #3 was Charleton Heston (no idea who played the clown) !

These are getting harder. I'd say:
1. Victor Mature and Heddy Lamar. Don't know the movie but will guess The Robe.
2. Robert Taylor and unknown. Don't know the movie.
3. Charlton Heston and, if memory serves, Jimmy Stewart as the clown. Don't remember the movie. Big Top?
4. Jean Simmons and Richard Burton. Don't know the movie, possibly Cleopatra.
5. Bing Crosby, Mitzi Gaynor, Rosemary Clooney and Danny Kaye. Movie: Holiday Inn with Dean Jagger.

This would be easier if I used Google first.

How did Heddy Lamar help the allies during WWII?

We can thank Hedy Lamar for inventing orthogonal coding, which is used in coma mobile phones to this day.
Yes that's Hedy Lamar. She also did one of the first ever nude scenes in a major production (Ecstasy) back in the pre-code days (1930's). The movie in question here is Samson and Delilah.

Number 2. Quo Vadis with Robert Taylor and Deborah Kerr.

Number 3. The Greatest Show On Earth and that is Charlton Heston. The clown was played by Jimmy Stewart believe it or not.

Number 4. The Robe. Richard Burton and Jean Simmons. The Robe was the first major motion picture to be shot in Cinemascope. Demetrius and the Gladiators was a sequel to this one.

5. Not Holiday Inn. White Christmas. Bing, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and that's not Mitzi Gaynor - it is Vera Ellen. I don't know what size her waist was, but she was always very thin. White Christmas was the first major motion picture to be shot in VistaVision.

Some mighty fine guesses folks.

I ran these past my Wife, she nailed Jimmy Stewart as the clown immediately...she also knew I was wrong about Susan Hayward, but did not get that it was Hedy (That’s Hedley! πŸ˜‰) Lamar. I forgot all about her...
Great test Spirit (I love this stuff)

Hedy and a partner worked on what would come to be known as "frequency hopping". Although it is now used for WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, she envisioned it to prohibit enemy ships from jamming allied torpedo guidance sysyems. She held the patent but the military did not use it during the war. It's worth is now valued at about $30 billion but te patent expired long ago and she made nothing from her invention. She is credited with other inventions including a modification to the Concorde SST aircraft. Not your stereotypical beautiful but dumb Hollywood actress.

I get Vera Ellen and Mitzi Gaynor confused sometimes. Both great dancers. Mitzi was in South Pacific.

Kudos to the wife for ID'ing Jimmy Stewart. Maybe now some people will get the reference in "Blazing Saddles".

I've never seen Blazing Saddles. I know. I know. I've never been able to sit all the way through an entire Mel Brooks movie. Kinda like the three stooges. Never was a fan. So what's the reference? I've seen bits and pieces - the fart scene and other stuff.

Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman) was the territorial attorney general who tried to make a fortune illegaly. People kept calling him Heddy Lamarr which bothered him but he was advised that he could not be sued for using a takeoff on her famous name since she had not been born yet.

So it wasn't a reference to Jimmy Stewart?

The stooges were just slapstick. Mel Brooks is more cerebral. You need to be a fan of movies to get much of his humor. Mel performed in the Borsht Belt in the Catskills (New York's entertainment center in the old days). He then wrote for Sid Ceasar's Show of Shows with Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Woody Allen and Larry Gelbart of MASH fame. He also wrote Get Smart with Buck Henry and performed as the 2000 year old man with Carl Reiner. You may have seen more of his work than you realize.
