Curious because i know no one that does the following, but i believe i have read some of you have done this.

Have your groceries delivered to the car. Do you Tip the delivery person?

Other curiosity is does the store charge you more to have someone else shop for you?

As for tipping i see these workers come out in all kinds of weather during the day as well as night. They hand the driver a paper where i assume is the list of what they ordered and never see anything given to the employee.

And to keep this in the fishing perspective, what is the % of the tip when one goes on a chartered fishing trip.

I do my own grocery carry out but when I went on fishing trip I tipped 25%. The captain took my wife and myself and we caught 24 fish in 4 hours. He was great.

Chartered fishing trip; 15% - 20%, it does make a difference if the capt. fishes or not, and most of them do.
My grandson delivered groceries, with his car, and usually got $15. - $20. buck tip.

Hope this helps, plum

Delivery by way of car would be like a pizza delivery best get a tip.

But i am referencing people sitting in their cars waiting for their groceries outside the store.

Good to know about the 25%. Thanks

we always tip the charter 20% (unless he's lazy and doesn't put us on any fish. that's only happened twice in 20 years)

I give mybsmallmouth guide a generous tip. Usually $100 By that evening he sends me coordinates of some really productive spots. So when we go out the next day on our own, we drive right to it
Has paid off big time

I tip 20% on everything I tip on. My daughter servers people as a bar tender. She taught me one thing, if you tip in cash they don't have to claim it on taxes. Jusy Saying.

We have been buying our groceries, since Covid, by ordering online, then picking them up outside the store. Myrna says she doesn’t think anyone tips them. They do have an online survey to comment on how well the shoppers and “car hops” do, and they are awarded, based on the comments.
So Myrna will fill out the surveys for them. That’s all we know....

Thanks Randy, those " car hops " are another essential personnel that it seems folks forget about.

Car hops are the same as the inside servers but I don’t think that they shouldn’t be tipped the same. Inside servers keep coming back to refill your drinks. Car hops bring you your tray and remove it when your done and that’s it.
A good tip at the bait barge helps you later on. When you come back for bait next time they will recognize you and your boat and when you ask for a half scoop of bait you’ll get more then half a scoop.
At the recycling centers for aluminum cans why is there a tip jar where you pick up your money?
Your the one unloading your vehicle and taking everything over to the scale to be weighed and they want a tip for weighting it?
When I unloaded my pickup of all the scrap metal by myself there it was, yup a tip jar where you get paid for you metal.
You don’t tip the person who bags your groceries at the checkout and puts the bags back into your cart.
I can see a tip for the people who load the groceries into your car. Where we shop they put the cold and frozen items into our cold bags and that goes a little beyond what they have to do and deserves a tip.

I guess I'm the cold hearted bastard here.. being self employed in a service industry. Too many people EXPECT a tip.. A tip is a reward.. If you do your job as expected, you get the paycheck you deserve.. If you go the extra mile.. you get a tip. Otherwise it's just glorified begging!

These folks coming out to your car to deliver groceries were not hired to do that job. I am sure most folks are using the Covid excuse for not doing their own shopping but can't get it out of my mind some folks are just lazy.

Either reason, these folks should be recognized for doing a job that we ourselves should be doing.

After all, how do they know that someone didn't sneeze on the groceries that someone else picked out for them.

I with you. I must be another cold hearted bastard. I do tip my server in a restaurant, but I don't like to unless I've received outstanding service. They way I look at it is with the price of their goods, they should easily be able to pay their help. In my opinion, this tipping thing is out of hand. It has become EXPECTED regardless of the quality of service. While we're on the subject, tipping the fellow at the airport that GRABS my luggage out of my hand when I am perfectly capable of carrying it myself is NOT HAPPENING.

My girl tips the delivery service 15%. There is a mark up on the groceries you buy. We have used Instacart service, because of the Covid outbreak. Normally we would do our own shopping.

As a kid, I questioned why/how much my folks tipped at a
restaurant; since dad often worked his second (part-time)
job as a bartender and mom
sometimes worked part-time waitressing, they both made it clear that those jobs (when done right) deserved a decent tip, as their wages were nearly insignificant and tips were what they really worked for !

Now, I follow this tipping rule;
fair service gets 10%, good service gets 15%, excellent service gets at least 20% (or a little more), and shoddy/sub-par
service gets 2 cents (my opinion of the value of their service) !
