Just ordered my first fishing kayak! Any tips?

Just thought I’d share. Seems that this is a pretty positive community. I just ordered my first yak, a Vibe Yellowfin 120. I’m super excited to start kayak fishing! I still have to get a good paddle (I’ve been looking at a decent one at Bass Pro), a PFD, and some other things. But aside from that I cannot wait for this Colorado weather to start warming up. Anyone got any tips for a new yak angler? I’m primarily targeting bass and pike this year, and I could always use kayaking and angling tips. I figure one of the first things to do is take it out and jump out, make sure I can get back in it. I’ve even been thinking about putting a loop with some paracord that would be a good foothold in case I do fall out. Any good ideas on sturdy loop knots to use? Really any useful information that I might not have researched would be helpful! Tight lines, all!

Nice yak daniel. Practicing reentry is a good idea. If you’re river fishing tying your foot to the kayak is not. The boat could get hydraulic under at a yard sale and take you with it. A paddle leash is handy when you hook a big one and toss your paddle to grab your rod. And I like a taco clip to store my paddle. An anchor trolley is good for positioning your self in current or wind.
I’m not sure if decent paddle and Bass Pro belong in the same sentence. Lol. But a light weight composit paddle is a must. I really enjoyed my Bending Branches.
Plum Bob is one of our avid kayak anglers and will probably have some great advice.
Remember we love pictures.
Good luck and tight lines.

Words of wisdom, wear a life jacket. If you google man kayaking on Lake Corpus Christi texas drown. The man was 68 years old????That was this month. My brotherlaw was bank fishing for catfish and gaspergo(white drum fresh water), he saw a group of young people kayaking none were not wearing life jackets, sometimes we think there's no danger, but the law is law. Keep safe and have fun mastering that kayak. Let us know!!👍

Yes absolutely wear your pfd. You never know when some yahoo in a power boat is going to capsize you.
