Will be fishing St.Clair hopefully May 4th thru May 8th 2021. Will be first time I have fished this lake. Been wanting to fish here for many years and finally have the opportunity.
Just wondering what is good for smallmouth during this time?
Been watching a lot of videos of catching but not of what they are using.
Thanks for any info.

Early May depending on weather will be pre spawn
They are moving from deep water toward spawning flats.
Look for transition areas with rocks and old grass in obvious depth change areas near spawning flats.
Near is relative on st Clair. This could mean within a mile.
Typically areas that go from 14-16 ft to 8-10 ft
Areas where st Clair river empty into the lake is often good early
Muskamoot bay is great spawn flat. The area in front of the bay is usually a big draw. You may get lucky and have some early spawners
Look for other boats. They know what’s going on for the most part. If you see a cluster of boats. Get up wind of them at a respectful distance.
Tubes are always hot as are drop shots and Ned rigs. Depending on wind, jerkbaits are fantastic. Calm wind is better for soft plastic swimbaits on jig head.
Lipless cranks are hot at times too.
Sun is your friend. It groups them up. Look for dark areas in the water. This means wee growth.
If you catch one, mark that spot and fish it thoroughly. He isn’t alone
Good luck. You are going to love St Clair
Thanks so much. I am counting the days. Appreciate the info.
