Winter fishing Lake Michigan South Chicago

I live about 60 miles West of Lake Michigan. I keep reading about how good the Lake Michigan fishing is and would like to try fishing the lake. I used to go to Navy Pier when parking was free and you could walk out on the pier and fish. Any recommendations for shore fishing the lake for panfish like bluegill or perch?

Welcome to the Stage. The hot bait for yellow perch used to be crayfish tails below a bobber, but those may be hard to come by in Winter. Cocktail shrimp may work, but have never tried them. I don’t know of any bluegills, but a couple waxies on a small jig may work if they are there, or those can catch perch, too. I believe the limit may be 15 per person in IL, but check your regs. Good luck.
