So I got a deeper Chirp for Christmas. Thing is heavy and I'm terrified of losing it. Any idea what kind of setup I should use.

OK finally found the weight of it. 3 OZ more or less. I would think about using some 60-80 LB Braid for your peace of mind. and a M/H rod for casting it. The cheapest one is like $100 and the others go for closer to $300, so I fully understand your fears. Great gift though. You could go to 40 LB Braid for the 3 OZ weight, but I would be more for the 80 LB. You will only need about 200 yards of line on the reel. They say 100 meters on all the models, for range. Hope this helps.

I wouldn’t try to use a MH rod as my MH are only rated for 5/8 - 3/4 oz
If you have heavy rated rod that’s still only going to rate 1 1/2 or so
I’m talking traditional freshwater rods here. Salt and musky rod ratings will vary

I’d say use the heaviest you have with heaviest line you have and lob cast.

Depending on what species you are fishing for , it might pay to pick up another rod to handle this
I wouldn’t want to risk bustin a good rod dealing with this

If you are Using catfish gear , chances are you have a heavy rod that will handle it

True check your rods for max lure/weight rating. All my surf rods are good for 3 OZ or more. I do have a 7 foot one that is good for 3 Oz though.
