Hey MB, just moved from your neck of the woods about a month ago and from the 16 wonderful years i lived there the Drum, stripers, flounder and trout all were fun to catch.
This time of year the deep parts of rivers and creeks were the honey holes while using Z man baits were my go to. Also store bought frozen shrimp knew how to wake them up.
For future post there is no need to for all CAPS, our eye sight is still pretty good plus it is a admin no no.
Thanks for the advice. Sorry for the caps its just habit

No worries you are not alone with doing that. I preferred the Z man diesel opening night bait with shrimp scent while i was there. Of course water clarity will affect the catch too. Good luck and before others tell you, we love pics of your catch or of the area. Unlike you, some of us are stuck inside in this cold weather.
Tight lines MB
Whats everyone catching offshore within the 40 mile range or so. been fishing the creeks and rivers for several years now just trying to venture out and try new things.

The Spring run of Spanish mackerel is always nice, especially around the jetty north of Barden's Inlet and the shoals of Cape Lookout. Any nice day in May works. I like trolling gold Clarkspoons behind a 1 ounce keeled sinker. The latter is key, lest your line will get twisted from the spinning of the Clarkspoon. The Crystal Coast is full of fishing options.
