Looks like a knock off of an ugly stik but half the price. Anyone know anything about these rods? Was thinkin about recommending the 7'2 model to a friend.

An ugly stik is only 40 bucks and my ugly stik catfish has lasted forever and is still like new.

If he can he should check around at yard sales there's good gear out there for dirt cheap sometimes

I've heard the whuppin stick is one of those you get what you pay for type of rods.

I see that, but for 20 more dollars an ugly stik literally won't break from normal use, I have got the thing reel to tip before.

Believe me. I tried convincing him to go for the ugly stik. The whuppin stik is made from fiberglass too and the cabelas site claims its unbreakable.

I have a medium action whupping stick combo I got when I worked at cabelas. Got it for $15 and I've caught the most fish with it. One of the eyelets has a crack in the epoxy (it's my go everywhere combo it sits in my truck all summer) but it's never made a difference. I'd say they're worth it.

I've used the 10 foot whupping stick for years for snatching mullet and they are strong. But they will break and after the first one or two they really don't want to replace them. Anyone that as ever caught a mullet on a pole can see why they break. When you use 30 lb. test line to land a three pound fish you see why they will break.

You get what you pay for, I only owned 1 and learned my lesson. Plastic reel seat that stripped out and I almost lost my Pflueger reel. Swallowed my pride and tossed the worst rod I ever bought in the garbage. Cabelas is only honoring a 30 day guarantee on rod replacement.
If you want a good budget priced rod I recommend an UGLY STICK.

Great rods have had 3 of them for 10 years I've caught everything from 40 lb redfish to 6 lb walleye. With them they are almost indestructible. Barney
