In your experiences what has been the best bait/lures to catch bass from a lake?

In my experience there is no favorite lure for all lakes. The lure is dependent on the forage in the lakes themselves; i.e. crayfish, minnows, gobies, so on and so forth. There are some lakes where the fish do not bite lures at all.

I live and fish in South Carolina ponds and lakes mostly. Started fishing 2018 in my retirement. I've had the most catches on the Rapala original minnow jointed, black back and silver sides (even though everything I've read about this lure says to fish it as slow as possible, if I reel at a steady speed and very lightly twitch my rod tip at the same time, I get bit most often), a Ribbet solid body frog with paddle feet, ( i get good bites steady retrieving it on top but get bit most by casting it as far as I can past my target, letting it sink to the bottom while waiting 30-60 seconds, then slowly retrieving it with intermittent pauses). My next favorite is a kastmaster spoon. It's worked for me all twelve months of the year. I do get hung up at times, but they like it. Then last but not least by any means are the plastic worms. Sometime I use a 10" curly tail, sometime a straight worm. I really like the Robo worms. They're smaller. I put a small rattle inside them. I can't say for sure that it helps, but it sure seems to help. When all that fails, I go to crank and jerk baits. I keep notes of all my outings. I'm catching bass 60% of the times I go fishing. I don't know how that measures up, but I'm getting better and having fun. One thing I have figured out: What works today does not necessarily work tomorrow or at the next pond one mile down the road. What does work the most consistently is fishing a pond that nobody else fishes! That means having to exert a little effort to get there, but it is almost always well worth it. I do the worst fishing bodies of water that are fished a lot. If it's muddy and has a lot of fishing pressure, I have NOT figured that one out. That doesn't mean I won't, but I'm probably not trying it in below 40° temperature. I do have over 60 years logged in with this deep south heat and humidity. And I very thankful for my "Mr Heater" attachment for my propane tank...and so is my wife.

Ben...I was thinking the same thing. Another one is the Ned Rig. Favorite color- green pumpkin or black/blue.

Yep... weightless wacky rig, ned rig, on a shakey head jig, Texas rigged. Lots of ways to rig it and presentations, but all will catch bass... any species of bass. A versatile piece of plastic!

Your gonna like the ned rig. One of my all time favorites.
My opinion ZMan TRD is very good
A little super glue between bait nose and head helps.
Seems the more this bait gets chewed up, the better it catches.

Been here in S.C. 15 years and every year it gets harder to deal with cold weather. In Michigan 45 degrees was T-Shirt weather now its bundle up weather.
