Hi
Northern Michigan guy here new to surf fishing and will be in gulf shores for a couple months.
Shoreline all looks the same, what kind of water features do I look for? Best bait to use? Do the fish strips (bites) work
Are pompano around this time of year?
Thanks for any advice!!

Welcome to the Stage Dave , I'm not sure about Alabama, but in general, beach is beach. Scout the area you want to fish at LOW tide, and take note of any changes on the bottom, sandbars, troughs between bars, rocks, boulders, old pileings or docks, etc. Any changes on the bottom attracts fish. Up here I've found that fishing from 2or 3hours before high tide,to 2or 3hours after high tide, to be most productive.
I've heard that fishbites work, but overwhelmingly hear that Shrimp is the best choice. Good luck, and post some pictures!

Welcome to the Forum, Dave. It will please you to know that you are in the fishbowl of the Gulf Coast. There are so many places to fish from shore around the GS/OB area that you can fish at a different place every day and you will not duplicate an area in two months. There are a couple of party boats in OB but the Reel Suprise is the best. Stop at J & M's sporting goods and pick their brain, they are very good at helping rookies out, just ask. Join the Gulf Shores Fishing Forum. It is a very good forum and they will give you a lot of help. Use the search button up in the upper right-hand corner. I think the center part of the Pier blew out with the last Hurricane, I don't know what is happening there. If you have more questions, like precisely where to fish, PM me.

Like Fred said, Fishbites work but Live Shrimp is by far the best bait, followed by Fresh Dead Shrimp. Good Luck! Keep us posted!.
