Yesterday was a little disappointing. Saw about 45 head and they kept 1 - 2 miles between us. After chasing for 3 miles in snow I was done. This ranch usually has from 1500- 2500 head move in from Wyoming to winter there. They told us that the elk had not moved in this year and in two months they had only killed a handful. Just not enough snow yet - unusual!! They draw for 120 permits to hunt the place.
She only gets 3 days to hunt and was called to jury duty on her third day. She was a little bummed.
Told her not to worry we would go give it he!! today. Long story short. 25 head about 1000 yds below us. We got to within about 650 yds and they started to head out. Told to to take her time - relax and when a big one stops to hold the crosshairs about 12 β€œ above the shoulder and gently squeeze the trigger. Some came into a clearing and as I started to tell her to shoot the first or third one - bang and the first one lunged forward and was down - neck shot!! Range finder said 620 yds. She killed her 5x7 bull 5 years ago at 670 yds. She won’t shoot her rifle for an elk - insists on shooting my Weatherby 30-378. Has worked for her! Two hunts - two elk. Yes there is a lot of open areas they just run away from you when they see you. Hard to get close to them.
She was so excited I do believe she wet her pants from the excitement - I am sure that I did mineπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚!! Single mom with 3 kids working two jobs. She is a CNA and works at the VA care center. Glad she could get away and forget for a little while. I am still very excited for her.
Its skinned and at the locker. Will be tasty for her! I have an elk hunt in a couple weeks and she said I could shoot β€˜ HER’ Weatherby 30-378 β€” what??? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I just L O L
Want to thank our son - her Uncle Tony for all his help. He says he gets the tenderloins and backstraps! MAYBE NOTπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I just laughed and told her when she shoots a box and not just 2 shells for 2 elk then she could buy me a box. L O L!!

I do - new brass is $60 box. Dearly beloved Weatherby!! It has killed my 372 bull, my daughters 345 bull, the grandsons 330 bull and the two for the granddaughter. It has killed probably 40 elk now. Too much fun. Sweet rifle.

Alright brother.
Wanted to find my daughter's target from 2003 Iraq. I'll make a new post so as not to take over yours.
Again, great shootin kid.

Usually don’t but at times its all the chance you get, that or tag soup. Its a Christensen Arms 30-378 Carbon Fiber barrel built on a Sako action. Swarovski 6 x 18 x 50 Hibicht gradient scope.
Ex-son-in-law’s family have a long range shooting course with targets (out in the hills) of 200 up to 1400 yards. This rifle has conquered them all (with a few practice shots) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.
