Was looking thru my pictures and came across this. My first ever 5 pound smallmouth.

Long time Comming. I fished hard for like 4 years. Got close many times
Thought I’d share.

An amazing fish, I hope he went back in to get to 9 pounds. They have such heart. They remind me of Rocky Marciano stout but super strong. Congrats on your great catch.

Great fish Ben, I'm pretty sure it took me several more years than you to get my first over 5. Since then Ive got several over 6 and 3 seven or over. Keep hoping for an 8 but haven't got there yet. Hooked one one night that rolled up after a long fight was the biggest I've ever seen and hate to even guess what it weighed but I kicked the net off the deck and that noise was enough to send it on that last hard run and it pulled off

Good luck and go for it. The biggest one I’ve ever caught was right at 4 pounds and it was a monster for me.

Pickwick lake, the section about 7 miles below Wilson Dam is full of giant Smallmouth. I once took a guy there who had never caught a smallmouth the first fish he caught that day weighed a little over 8 pounds. He was spoiled from that day until he died. I was shaking like a leaf when I netted that fish and still remember the look on his face.
Here's a 6.3 I caught there this spring before the virus shut things down for me.

Great fish guys!
I caught my PB that I posted earlier this year and only had my tape to measure the length at 22”. I tried to take a selfie with it, but that didn’t turn out well. She is still swimming, so maybe she will fatten up over Winter and we will have another photo op next season? 🤷🏼‍♂️
I really want to meet her Momma, though😉
