Have you ever considered the Ugly Stik Elite? They are under $50 and are much lighter than the GX2's and less bulky. Take a look before you spend a $100 or so. The Elites come with a 7 year warranty same as the GX2's.

I have two of the Berkley Lightning rods are a good bang for the buck! I have both at 6'6" and a shorter ultra light rod. Keep your sales slip if you buy one as they have a one year guarantee. Otherwise, the original Ugly Sticks are still dependable rods.

Shimano Exage is a decent $100 rod
Balance and sensitivity not too shabby.

Yeah Mas, can't beat them for a $50.00 rod. If he's sure he wants to spend another 50 he can do better, but not twice as good. Personally I'd spend it on other "stuff".

I'll second that Ugly stick suggestion. They are tough rods in my opinion. I fish a lot weeds here in Texas and the stick does not snap. And if it does who cares, Its cheap, durable, and sensitive to the tap.

I hear people lately saying good things about Ugly Sticks. I used to pull one down to check it out and the darn tips flopped around like a fish out of water. I like the feel of a nice graphite rod, butt to tip. Are the current Ugly Sticks better than the old ones? If so. I'll check one out.

Boyd Duckett. Recently purchased 2 Abu Garcia Veratis rods. Haven’t tried these 2 yet, but very light. Reviews say these and Duckett are a toss up. Each rod <$100. 2 x were 7’ MH and 2 x 6’ 6” M. Had Duckett’s for couple and like them as well.

I’ll second Peach8 on the Boyd Duckett rods. I’ve had eight or so rods at or below $100 the last couple of years. I’m pretty tough my rods, excessively so by nature. I ended up with Duckett Silverado 7’3” medium/heavy fast taper from a big box sporting goods store back in July of this year simply because I’d broken my AG veritas and the Duckett was the only rod they had in stock. Literally. I’ve never been happier or had a rod this long without it breaking. It’s a sturdy, well built, rugged rod, it’s well balanced to boot. Some how they managed to do all that without sacrificing any sensitivity. I have it paired with the tatula 150 and love love love it. Buy it and fish it a couple of days and if your not happy with it take it back in excellent condition and swap it for something different. One of our big box sporting good stores down here has a satisfaction guarantee and has no problem with it.

Try a Bulldawg rod. Extremely light, extremely sensitive, extremely strong. Many models in Baitcasters and spinning, can be seen at Trophy Technology out of Texas. Less than $100 and out perform rods twice the price.
