During the years I was working, I belonged to the Petroleum Club in downtown Houston, and as you can tell it is the watering hole and assembly for lunch and dinner as well as special events for the oil patch crowd.

The amazing thing was the age of some of these folks. The main question poised by widows and widowers was not about anything else but, "Can you drive at night?" Just Sayin...RJS

Yes, I can drive at night. In fact, driving is one of the few things I can still do well. Now walking and standing around that is a problem! I also average falling about every trwo weeks. I am just glad I played football, when I realize I am going to fall, I just go ahead and relax and fall. Get a few bruises and such, but I believe if I tried to fight it, the results would be worse. Good advice, RJS.
In early October of 2019, on a rainy evening, I was about to hit the top step of the entrance porch of my abode.
A just-opened beer from the shop fridge, in one hand, the pizza I had just picked up, in the other. Slipped on that top step and STUPIDLY tried to save both handfuls.
Actually didn't spill the beer, much. The pizza flew out of my grasp, but seemed salvageable. In the moment, I (my body)failed to recognize that I had landed on my ribs at the bottom of the 3 steps.
I was kinda proud of "saving" my dinner.... until I got inside and took a deep breath.
Ended up in "Urgent Care" facility, two hours later, after coming to the realization that "this isn't gonna subside, dumbass !"
(I call myself all manner of derogatory names and get away with it... others, who attempt to....wouldn't be so lucky)

Outcome ? 5 breaks (cracks)on 3 ribs....Pain pills 'till they ran out, 48 hrs later, then told "to "buck up"...no more for you !" Seems they had recently been issued "a concern over abuse", and were not making guideline suggestion exceptions, even if you are a 66 yo having probs breathing without excruciating pain.
So..yeah, excellent advice RJ.... just relax if you find yourself about to fall. There's another beer in the fridge, another choice for dinner... but your health and mobility (for a week or two, at least... wasn't truly "back to normal" until nearly Christmas) are dependent on making wise priority choices....and of course... paying attention to where your feet are stepping !

PS.... that top step now has a railing... with a wide enough top cap to set the beer and the pizza on, whilst I fumble for my keys !

Are we gonna be able to use the phrase..."hindsight is 20/20" to proper effect, from now on ? Seems to me like opposing thought patterns, since "20/20" USED to be a good thing !?
Not quite sure, now......... hehehe

You are absolutely correct. When you get older you had better learn how to fall because you are going to get the experience. You have to relax and accept the fact you are going down. Just Sayin...RJS
